It's an oft-asked question - What else should I take care when my car is apart? Combining the job you're doing with other repairs & replacements can save you both time and money and will generally lead to a more reliable car. The list below is the one I use to remind myself of jobs that can be done without removing the engine from the car and, that when done together, are major timesavers. Part numbers are included where needed to facilitate ordering online.
Doing a simple tuneup? Check and replace:
Distributor O-Ring 91 76 470 PCV Breather Grommet 75 15 190 Intake Manifold Bushings 75 15 208 (3 needed, 88+) Distributor Cap (Use only Bosch) Distributor Rotor (Use only Bosch) Spark Plugs (Recommend NGK BCP6ES or EV, BCP*R*6 acceptable substitute Ignition Wires (Use only Bougicord or Magnecor) Air Filter
Doing a head gasket? Do the above, plus check and replace:
B2x2 Head Gasket Kit (Recommend Elring set) Alternator Bushings 75 41 451 (2 needed) 93 54 770 (2 needed) Power Steering Pump Bushing 93 65 917 Power Steering Pump Bushing 93 65 909 Side Motor Mounts (hydraulic) 75 45 650 (2 needed) Water Pump (Use only Saab Genuine, Laso, Hepu) Top Radiator Hose 75 46 161 75 46 179 Coolant Elbow 75 04 624 Thermostat Coolant Bottle Cap 43 95 570 Fan Thermoswitch 85 47 572 NTC Sensor 93 57 021
Pulling the engine? Do the above, plus check and replace:
